Accidental Music is getting a makeover. The new site (same address) should be up and running by the end of the weekend, but if there are any glitches in the meantime, bear with me. I am much more adept at writing about music than I am at knowing how the interwebs and code work. But if all goes according to plan it's going to look fantastic!
With the new site will also come Accidental Music's second round playlist for SXSW 2013. It's pretty ridiculous how many great bands are coming this year. There are also going to be lots of galleries of concert photos, playlists, and as per always, lots of great music recommendations! I'm also trying to convince Max to do a weekly post with his ramblings about music.
In the meantime, don't forget about my Vol 1 SXSW playlist and my Christmas Playlist, which features some great renditions that you won't hear on all of those 24 hour carol channels, which makes them so damn refreshing!
Happy December 1! I still find it a bit surreal that I am wearing shorts and a tank top while watching Santa parade down Congress Ave, but I guess I'll take it. Today is the day I deem it officially acceptable to start listening to Christmas Songs. This years holiday playlist includes all of the greats from last year (because I loved it so much!) and a few new ones. I do not stick strictly to Christmas, but include songs about winter and the solstice, because I celebrate all three equally.
SXSW 2013 is four months away, which means it's time to start researching and listening to as many of the artists that will descend upon this great city as possible. The first round of artists has already been announced, so I have put together a playlist for you. Of the 230 bands announced so far, I have narrowed it down to 80. I took out anything metal, (most) rap, or sounds like someone killing cats. I also took out a lot of the EDM because it baffles me that this genre has taken off like it has. Oh those silly youth and their recreational club drugs! I stuck pretty strictly to instruments with the occasional mac book pro thrown in there just to keep it diverse. I included any band with a banjo or a fiddle because that is the quickest way to my heart. Happy listening!
Everyday my inbox is flooded with great new music and I do my best to listen to all of it and the pass it along to all of you. Happy listening!
I'm bummed I missed this group when they passed through Austin last week, but life has been crazier than I would like. I am not the only one infatuated with Coldspecks. Starbucks chose them as their download of the week. I may dislike 99% of their beverages, but I almost always love their music selections!

Today's inbox feature is Lady Lamb The Beekeeper. She has an upbeat, chill sound, which seems contradictory, but I'm pretty sure she is both at the same time. She's fun. Check her out.
I can only assume that you are spending today at one of the following places: 1. The airport, where you are battling overbooked flights, hoping you and your luggage make it to your final destination and crossing your fingers that the crying baby waiting at your terminal is NOT seated behind you. 2. At the grocery store fighting over the last of the turkey's and hoping you still have time to defrost it because those fuckers take FOREVER to defrost! (I mean, so I've heard...) 3. In your kitchen sipping wine and prepping all of those fabulous recipes you've been collecting on Pinterest since last February. 4. At work shaking an angry fist at the universe because you are not traveling somewhere and you forgot to take that turkey out to start defrosting last week (because I swear that's how long it takes!).
I find that in these stressful times, I crave loud, dance music with a strong beat and sung by a badass female artist who makes me think that I am as badass as she is and I can take on the world. Kimbra has been my go-to badass female artist for several months now. Her entire album is fantastic and every time I listen to it, I think that I can take on the whole world. Here is my favorite song off of the album. Play it loud and go take on the world (or that turkey!).
Dance party break! Today's song from my inbox is Lavender Diamond. You are required to stop what you are doing, throw your arms out and dance. Just because.

Blue James Band are based out of Boston and have recently put out their third album, Give Me Love Of Give Me The Fight. I love a band that makes use of intricate percussion and instrumentals and this bands does just that! I'd have a dance party to them!
When I die I want to come back as Grace Potter and I want the Nocturnals to follow me around playing their incredible music and it will be the soundtrack to my life and I will dance wildly to all of it.
I mean, just watch her and tell me you don't want her to be your spirit animal too!
We were not at Fun Fun Fun Fest this year (though we were with Stick Figure Andrew when he tried to break in*), but enjoyed following the festivities via instagram and our through our fellow music bloggers who were lucky enough to be there. Here is a great recap of the fun to the third power. FFFFest is a festival that gets to the heart of what I love so much about this city. It is incredibly diverse in music and therefore, attendee. It is a celebration of the weird, strange and great music!
Remember that time I was experiencing utter bliss as I danced to incredible Phish music as performed by A Live One and then Blues Traveler showed up and played a surprise set? I am still reliving over and over again because it was just So. Damn. Awesome!
