Then there was that afternoon that I watched Justin Bieber's movie, Never Say Never

I know far too many Justin Bieber songs than I care to admit. I blame it on the middle school girls that I teach who always vote for the Bieber station on Pandora (second place usually goes to Twilight), and considering that compared to so many of their other suggestions, he is actually appropriate, I allow it. This is not to say that I am a fan. I am plagued only with the Cedar Fever, not the Bieber Fever. I'm not a fan of his voice or the fact that it is usually accompanied either by screaming tweens or tweens singing along in their very off key voices. So it was surprising that yesterday when I noticed that his movie, "Never Say Never" had been put up on itunes, I felt drawn to watch it.

Turns out, the kid's kind of cool, not to mention talented. He plays several instruments, largely self-taught (at least as far as I can gather). He has the kind of sick dance moves I can only dream of having, and as I watched his life play out before me, I couldn't help but root for him. He's kind, genuine, and reminds me of both my younger brothers. And while his voice is not the kind I am inclined to, he's not that bad. His family seems normal (as opposed to the fame whoring kind of so many other music celebs), his team all seem to have his best interest at heart, and I left the documentary feeling glad that so many of my students have him to idolize.

Thanks to Netflix, you can watch the film from the safety of your own home and never admit to a soul that you watched it and probably even enjoyed it. Never say never!
