Ed Sheeran at SXSW

Ed Sheeran at MTV Woodie Awards, SXSW. Photo by Amanda

I never intended to see Ed Sheeran at SXSW and then I saw him twice purely by accident (Accidental Music pun intended). I'd heard his name and knew Perez Hilton liked him (I pay attention to artists Perez likes. I'm not ashamed), but had never bothered to find out why. And then this pale red-headed boy who looks like Ron Weasley came out on stage and started singing sweet songs with great syncopated rhythms on his guitar and he sounded like Jason Mraz and I decided I kind of liked this Ed Sheeran fella. Armed only with his acoustic guitar and pedals for looping, Sheeran filled the stage with sound, interacted with the audience and put on a great show.

And then he sang a fourteen minute version of "You Need Me, I Don't Need You" at Stubbs, using the crowd as his 'gospel choir' for back up harmonies, and I realized he might be one of the most badass artists I'd seen at the festival.

Photos from SXSW 2012: Thursday

It is only Thursday and I already had to bust out the mom sneakers to help ease my throbbing feet. Every muscle in my body hurts, the bags under my eyes could rival a meth addicts, my forehead is sunburned and I realized after I left the final showcase tonight that I smelled quite terribly and had sweated entirely though my t-shirt.

I am having the time of my freaking life! I am not sure how life can get better than Delta Spirit on the intimate Radio Day Stage, raging with Reptar, listening to whimsical Avalanche City, singing at the top of my lungs to Trampled By Turtles or the absolute madness of amazing that was The Silent Comedy. I am overwhelmed with how great life is right now and the amazing music I am so lucky to hear.

I have been taking copious notes and snapping loads of pictures on my sweet little camera and I promise to flood you with stories, reviews, photos, and all kinds of music recommendations as soon as I emerge next week from this incredible SXSW bubble.
