how @worldcafe made my day

I am often asked where I find out about new music or what's going on in the music world. I get my music from all over. I have an extensive lists of blogs I read, tweets I follow, and podcasts that accompany my daily commutes. But if I had to pick one person who has influenced me the most in the world of music, it would be David Dye on the World Cafe.

I have been listening to his show for years. It used to come on the radio just before I got off work and was the soundtrack to my afternoons as I detoxed after a long day with children and made my way into the evenings. I love the music that David chooses. So many of my favorite artists I know about because of him. When I began interviewing bands, I listened to his podcasts on repeat (as if I wasn't already), taking notes on how he asks questions and creates the wonderful conversations with bands that he does.

Today in a bad tutor moment I totally streamed his interview with Foster the People on my ipod and listened to it while tutoring my students on quadratic functions. I tweeted the following:

In a giddy fan moment I discovered that I had been retweeted by none other than @worldcafe himself! I flipped out a little bit. I tend to get overly excited by weird idols and David Dye is definitely a music guru of mine. In my state of giddiness, I posted about it on my other blog. I gushed and gabbed and wondered if it was really David Dye behind the retweet. I received the following response:

I'm okay with admitting that I totally called my mom up screaming in excitement. It may seem a little bit silly, but David has been a major influence on me. He was the first person to turn me on to great artists like Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and so many others. So David, thank you for your wonderful interviews, your thoughtful playlists and for making my day with a tweet.
