I receive daily e-mails from bands and pr companies telling me about new and great music. I love it, especially when they are personally written notes from bands. While I am not always timely in making my way through these e-mails (because I like to give everything a good, solid listen), I will always jump straight to the recommendations in my inbox from my brother. It's because of such recommendations that I have been turned onto favorites like The Brew, and Cornmeal (among many others). It seems to be no different with his newest rec, The Barr Brothers.
A few parts acoustic folk, other parts blues, they have a harpist and that might just be my favorite part! My parents are both music lovers and my mother is a harpist, so growing up there were always a plethora of instruments around the house; dulcimers, recorders, drums, guitars, and of course, plenty of harps. The Barr Brothers formed in Montreal after a fire and one of the brothers listening to the harpist next door. Some might have found this creepy, but she decided to join their band! Well played. The harp lends a unique string sound and range to this great group.
