Train and Why I Could Never Truly Be a Hipster

It is easy to don the skinny jeans, mock wayfarers, clip a feather in your hair, buy vinyls and listen to obscure indie bands and call yourself a hipster in a town like Austin, TX. I have been labeled one a few times, despite my jeans not being skinny, my wayfarers being real and absence of vinyls (because they just take up so much damn room and Spotify is so much easier!). Perhaps it the sometimes obscure indie bands I listen to and the feather earrings I occasionally wear, if only because everyone wants to be a bird sometimes. But the real reason I will never truly be a hipster is because I have absolutely no shame in how much I freaking LOVED seeing Train at SXSW!

Did I sing along to every song? Yes. Did I laugh when they made fun of themselves with great little lines like "Sorry none of you knew that song, it's a fresh one" after we'd all lost our voices from singing "Meet Virginia" at the top of our lungs? Most definitely. There's a reason Train has so many top 40 hits. They are catchy as hell and I can't fault them for that. To say that you haven't rolled down your windows when their songs come on the radio and belted them out at the top of your lungs is either a lie, or an experience you are missing out on.

So yes, I made it a point to see Train at SXSW, not even by accident, and that's why I am ok never truly being a hipster.
