Caitlin Rose sings for Record Store Day

Record Store Day is this Saturday (4/21), when music lovers and artists across the country will celebrate locally owned record stores. I feel conflicted writing about this as I so infrequently visit record stores. I used to spend hours in them, saving up for cassettes when I was a kid (in case you were ever wondering how old I am) and cd's as a teenager. These days I find myself fully immersed in the digital world. I save up for mp3's and store music in clouds and on idevices. I don't own a way of playing a cd if I wanted to and I don't collect vinyls because they take up space and I can't play them while driving with the windows down or while sitting in a coffee shop (where I am sitting streaming digital music as I write this). Except I TOTALLY support local, independent businesses and record stores for all of those hipsters out there wanting their vinyls and those cooler than me who are not as lost in the digital clouds.

Many artists will be releasing special records, songs, projects, etc in honor of this occasion. Even if you are a cloud dweller like me, you can still go and support your local record store by picking up some music books or magazines or a new poster of your favorite band to hang on your walls.

Here is Caitlin Rose doing a delightful cover of The Arctic Monkey's "Piledriver Waltz" in honor of Record Store Day.
