Here's a little behind the scenes footage of Mark Foster and the rest of boys of Foster The People at their wacky Call It What You Want music video shoot. If' I'd had questions about their music video, perhaps this would have given me answers, but I think sometimes things are just too weird to question. Also, I'm totally glad I didn't have the crazy nightmares this director seemed to have...yikes!

Avalanche City: Love Love Love
I'm kind of obsessed with Avalanche City right now! I discovered them while perusing the list of bands set to play at SXSW this year. If you can't wait that long to see them, they will be playing at the Parish with Ximena Sarinana next Monday night 11/21. I will surely be there.

New Video from Pert Near Sandstone
I haven't featured a band for my Over The Hillbilly Wednesdays series in a while and this is a perfect video to get you over the hump of this week! It's fast paced and shows off what a great sound a set of strings can make. Also, their percussionist is a tap dancer. Brilliant!

Modest Mouse to play 2 sold out shows at Stubbs!
I'll be snapping photos at tonights Modest Mouse concert at Stubbs. Here's a video of an oldie but a goodie.
New Video from The Wheeler Brothers: Home For The Holidays
The Wheeler Brothers might be one of my favorite bands out of Austin right now. They are amazing and wonderful and have a style of music that is easy to fall in love with. They are playing a show on November 18th at Antone's that is bound to sell out, so get your tickets now. I guarantee you'll dance and fall in love with them as much as I have. I will also be celebrating my birthday that night, so come out and celebrate!
Also, as part of their Home For The Holidays Tour, the boys will be holding a video contest and sending a lucky winner home to see their family for the holidays. Check out all the info here.

New Foster The People Video: Call It What You Want
Foster the People
What a bunch of weirdos. I love them so much!
Florence and The Machine: Ceremonials
Florence Welch is one crazy bitch if she's anything like her lyrics suggest, but damn is she a talented and awesome crazy bitch! Her new album, Ceremonials dropped yesterday. I'm still working my way through a few solid listens before posting my official review, but here's the video for her first single off of the album. So far I'm loving it.

@dawestheband 's Time Spent In Los Angeles music video
I am still in a generally comatose state recovering from 2 full days of getting to know my toilet far too intimately. Well played, stomach bug, well played. Until I am fully back on my feet, or at least vertical enough to sit at my desk long enough to share with you all of the music goodies that I have (interviews with Dawes, Blitzen Trapper, The Giving Tree Band, Wheeler Brothers and so much more!), watch this video. Apparently it is climbing the VH1 charts, which is strange because I didn't know VH1 still played actual videos (though that would explain the one I saw the other day, which I chalked up to being a feverish hallucination). Still, if VH1 charts are still around, this video deserves to be there. The song is probably always worth playing on repeat (which also might have happened while I was in a fever haze. Or maybe I was just singing it to my dog on repeat...either one is plausible...I don't really remember much).

Sometimes music videos are even weirder than the weird ones
Sometimes I get sent music videos that leave me thinking, who pitched this idea and who thought it was great enough to make? Granted, I generally assume that music videos are going to be all kinds of weird (I'm talking to you, Foster The People) or involve melancholy couples that stare longingly at each other or somewhere in the great beyond or dive into pools with their clothes one (which I have often thought about doing when I am walking past my pool late at night...haven't had the right soundtrack I guess). But sometimes music videos just leave me baffled...
Such was the case with this video by London based group, Pengilly. The cinematography is beautiful and for the majority of the video I was pulled in an intrigued by the story as it walked side by side with a beautiful song. Except the ending left me thinking, wtf?

Music Thoughts on a Monday Morning
My life is in no way changed now that R.E.M has called it quits.
I'm curious as to which drugs make writing and/or listening to a six hour long song seem like a good idea.
I am obsessively listening to Sara Bareilles after her kick ass ACL show. Seriously, she's the shit! Also, she has a new video and she's dressed as a T-Bird with a Snookie poof and dancing in a grocery store. It works for her. Or maybe it doesn't. I still love her.
Utopia Fest is super close!! I will be providing far more coverage than at ACL. Also, there will be exponentially fewer crowds and my brother has promised me that I will completely wear out my dancing shoes when I see Cornmeal.
Here's a song for your Monday morning. Also, if you don't have this album on your itunes under the category of "awesome," remedy that now. It's ALO, Roses and Clover.

My favorite kind of text messages
I received the following text from my brother today: "btw if you could send me a new cd or two I would be quite grateful." It was the kind of text that put a spring in my lethargic, heat oppressed step. I love recommending music! I spent the next hour at my computer pouring through spotify and itunes deciding what to send him. Here are some great songs/artists for your hot summer Sunday night.
Givers: because they're just so fun
Kids of 88: because they're a dance party
Oh Land: because we can forgive the weird poncho dresses she insists on wearing

New Music Video from Best Coast
I started listening to Best Coast because I was following Bethany on twitter (@bestycoastyy). I am kicking myself for missing her gig in Austin a few months ago. She has a great older, sunny southern California sound. Drew Barrymore directed her new video complete with all kinds of random cameos. It's a little bit cheesy, but who doesn't love a good choreographed dance fight?

New Music Video from Foster The People
Foster the People released their new video this morning. It’s like some weird 1980′s sci fi movie and while I totally dig a roughed up looking Mark Foster, I’m not sure I’m digging the video. Maybe I just didn’t get it.
I wish, instead that they had made a video for Houdini and done some kind of period (turn of the century) piece where Mark Foster is a struggling illusionist, embarrassed by the success of his fellow band mates/illusionists. It would be in technicolor and a fun play on the “sometimes I wanna disappear.” I know it’s kind of obvious for a song called “Houdini” but they came up with the metaphor first.
**Upon further investigation it seems the boys may have already filmed their Houdini video. They did not take my advice….
