There are times when I am cool and collected and professional. Then there are times when I am a giddy fan girl meeting the lead singer of Trampled By Turtles. Definitely the highlight of the fest!

Photos from SXSW 2012: Thursday
It is only Thursday and I already had to bust out the mom sneakers to help ease my throbbing feet. Every muscle in my body hurts, the bags under my eyes could rival a meth addicts, my forehead is sunburned and I realized after I left the final showcase tonight that I smelled quite terribly and had sweated entirely though my t-shirt.
I am having the time of my freaking life! I am not sure how life can get better than Delta Spirit on the intimate Radio Day Stage, raging with Reptar, listening to whimsical Avalanche City, singing at the top of my lungs to Trampled By Turtles or the absolute madness of amazing that was The Silent Comedy. I am overwhelmed with how great life is right now and the amazing music I am so lucky to hear.
I have been taking copious notes and snapping loads of pictures on my sweet little camera and I promise to flood you with stories, reviews, photos, and all kinds of music recommendations as soon as I emerge next week from this incredible SXSW bubble.

SXSW 2012 Preview: Favorites (not to be confused with a band that might have this name)
Most of SXSW is a chance to hear new artists that I can't wait to finally see or to discover bands that I don't even know about but will fall deeply in love with. Then again, SX is also a time to be giddy about bands I've seen before or maybe even many times, but will stand in any line just to see them again.
Enter Trampled By Turtles, one of my absolute favorite bands I saw at last years SXSW. They are fast paced, high energy, all kinds of rowdy awesomeness! They take traditional folk and bluegrass elements and make them their own, pushing their instrumentals, harmonies and the sweeping sound of the fiddle to new places. Their official showcase is March 15 (Thurs) at the Cedar Street Courtyard, and will no doubt be playing several shows around town.
The Wheeler Brothers are the kind of band that drive me crazy during a week like SXSW. I fell in love with them at Utopia Fest, loved them so much that I celebrated my birthday with them, and while so much of me wants to use my precious time at SX to see bands that I have never seen before, I can't help but want to see them again! They are folk-rock americana, with diverse instrumentals that beautifully complement their lyrics. If you haven't seen them, be sure to add them to your list of must sees.
Cowboy and Indian are a veteran group to SXSW, their inception as a band coming out of a show performed by Jazz Mills and Jesse Plemons a few years back. Jazz's voice is haunting and beautiful, lending itself perfectly to their uniquely vintage folk sound. They have sine grown as a group, adding musicians and instruments, but maintaining their simple but rich sound.

Accidental Playlist: SXSW 2012 1st Edition
For the next few weeks leading up to SXSW I will be posting playlists featuring SXSW artists I am excited about. I decided to split them up instead of making one gigantic list. This week's list features great artists like Sharon Van Etten (who will be playing Stubbs as part of NPR's opening night showcase!), Alice Russell, Trampled By Turtles (my fave group from last year), Charlie Mars, Blitzen Trapper, The War on Drugs, Ingrid Michaelson, Wheeler Brothers and many more. Take a listen and get as excited as I am! Also, be sure to check out my color coded spreadsheet of SXSW 2012 artists.

Concert Preview: Trampled by Turtles in Austin
One of my favorite shows I caught last year at SXSW was Trampled By Turtles. They are all the best parts of bluegrass rolled into a great, high speed, intoxicating band. Their fiddle alone is enough to transport you out of this world! They have so many great songs, but this one is my favorite. They are playing tomorrow night in Austin at The Parish so don't wait so long. Cancel your plans, get tickets, and I guarantee you will fall in love.
